How to Succeed in Orchid Gardening: Supplies

Orchid farming can be a hectic due to the complexity of dealing with these plants especially if you are not efficiently informed. One of the factors that comprehensively determine success in growing orchids is the supplies you use. The essential supplies that you should ensure you have before purchasing the seed or young plant include:
1. Pruning snips
Blooming of the orchid plant is very much welcomed by the respective growers but it can be short-lived if not properly attended to. This is where the pruning snips come to play, there are important in shaping the plant. There are handily used for trimming the wayward projections of the plant so that the plant is shaped in the most suitable way.
2. Pots
To begin with, the orchids need to have a distinct container for which the adequate conditions can be defined for the plant to flourish. In most instances, people will go for simple pots made from either terra cotta or plastic so that the beauty of the plant is visualized. The important thing for them to note about these pots is that they take the crown by being very affordable. This is advantageous to the grower in that they have peace of mind when considering re-potting after a year.
3. Potting Mix
Aeration for orchids is a must and that is why the potting soil needs to permit air circulation around the roots of the plant. The choice of potting mix should therefore be a consideration made after review and consultation to ensure that aeration is ample. A proper mix for potting is one that has vermiculite or perlite because these substances allow for ideal air supply.
4. Fertilizer
Fertilizer is very important in the growth cycle of orchids although many people do not realize this and therefore get disappointed when the plants wither. This is a mistaken idea which has failed many people who may have had high hopes because they had followed all other directives to the letter. Considering the fact that orchids require precise soil mixtures for growth, the same case applies for the nutrient choice. Fertilizers are rich in the nutrients that are readily needed by the orchid plants for them to bloom. The concentration of constituents needed has to be determined first of all so that the application is appropriate to the plant’s needs and effective for growth.
5. Light
Everything lives and depends on light and this is a factor that makes orchids normal because they depend on it for growth. Sun is the significant source of light although there are other artificial sources that you can go for and still serve the purpose.
6. Misting Bottle
Orchids require a high percentage of moisture and that is why a misting bottle is essential even if you regularly water the plant. The bottle can come in handy when the plant needs moisture and this will also vary according to species.
7. Pest Supplies
Pest control products are mandatory for making sure the plant does not fall victim to variable types of pests. These can be harmful to the plant and may result in death rendering all your efforts to keep it alive, worthless. There several types of supplies that can be used for orchids although organic ones are the best.

You may also consider getting support for the orchid in the form of mounts if need be or use humidity trays to aid in germination. These are supplies that are essential in guaranteeing cost effective orchid growth.
